There was a time I’d avoid mirrors.
Each hair wash felt like a breakdown waiting to happen, strands everywhere: on the floor, on my pillow, tangled in my comb. I kept telling myself it was normal, that maybe it was just stress or weather or hormones. But deep down, I knew something was wrong. As I watched more strands collect in my brush each day, panic crept in. I wasn’t just losing hair, I was losing confidence.
If you’re in the same boat, I get it.
I tried it all, every trending hair product and DIY hack I could find, late-night Google searches for miracle cures. Some things helped a little, most didn’t. What hurt most wasn’t just the thinning hair, it was the feeling of helplessness, of slowly losing a part of myself.
But then I stopped everything… and started listening to my scalp, to my strands, to my body.
I rebuilt my hair fall control routine from scratch, step by step, with intention and love. I decided to stop chasing quick fixes and started building a routine backed by both Ayurveda and modern science.
What happened next felt almost magical: not only did my hair fall reduce, but I also began to notice soft, wispy baby hairs sprouting back. It wasn’t overnight. But slowly, confidence returned and so did my hair volume.
In this post, I’m pulling back the curtain on the exact routine that helped me stop hair fall and actually regrow hair in the hopes that it helps you too.
Here’s My Hair Fall Control Routine
To start any hair care routine the first step is to know your goals, like mine was hair fall control. It can be anything for you like controlling dandruff, protecting your hair color, repairing damaged hair. The next and most crucial step of any routine is identifying the root cause of your problem and fixing it like hitting a bulls eye.
Identifying The Root Cause of Hair Fall
I took my notepad and jotted down all the main reasons behind my severe hair fall. Common culprits that cause hair fall are:
- Seasonal Change
- Unhealthy scalp
- Hormonal changes/imbalance
- Recent illness
- Reactions to certain hair products
- Excessive use of heat styling tools
- Nutritional deficiencies
- Dehydration
For me, a recent illness had taken a toll on my overall health, leading to increased hair fall. Along with it, I was dealing with hormonal imbalance, dry scalp, improper diet, all while we were dealing with sudden seasonal changes. Addressing these root causes was the first step towards recovery.
Embracing Hot Oil Treatments
Hot oil treatments became a cornerstone of my hair fall control routine. They were my little ritual of self-care and restoration. Most days, I combined organic cold-pressed oils(mostly coconut oil, castor oil, avocado oil and few drops of rosemary essential oil), while on days I felt indulgent, I would DIY my hair oils(hibiscus hair oil, fenugreek oil or kalonji oil) and when life got too hectic? I’d simply reach for my trusted Vegan Mia hair oil, it is loaded with goodness of rosemary, jojoba oil, castor oil, cedarwood essential oil, thyme essential oil, lavender essential oil and argan oil, all in one.

I specifically chose these hair oils as I knew these would target my hair fall from its root cause while nourishing my dry scalp. Every Sunday and Wednesday, without fail, I used to warm up the hair oil and apply it on my scalp, hair length targeting my dry ends well and leave it on for half an hour before washing my hair.
Incorporating Hair Steaming
After oiling, I introduced a touch of spa luxury to my routine, hair steaming. I’d put on my steam cap, letting the gentle warmth open up my hair follicles, inviting the oils to sink deeper into every strand. This wasn’t just about technique; it felt like a moment of pure indulgence while the steam worked its magic, boosting blood circulation nourishment into my scalp and amplifying the treatment’s impact.

Switching To Gentle, Sulfate-Free Shampoos
I transitioned to shampoos free from sulfates, parabens, and other harsh chemicals and picked ones with that were meant to target my hair fall. These gentle cleansers helped maintain the natural oils of my scalp, reducing dryness and breakage. Once or twice I made egg shampoo at home.

Opting For Silicone-Free Conditioners
Silicone-based conditioners can weigh down hair and clog follicles. So, I made sure my hair won’t be dealing with anymore product build-up, so I opted for silicone free conditioners that were loaded with nourishing oils and hydrating ingredients.

Utilizing Herbal Hair Rinses
You know me, I love using hair rinses. They are simple, they don’t take much of your time and deliver amazing results quicker. I prepared rinses using guava leaves, rosemary leaves or green tea, pouring them over my hair post-shampoo. These rinses not only added shine but also saved my falling strands one at a time.
Replacing Commercial Serums With Natural Oils
I replaced commercial hair serums with a blend of argan oil and rosehip oil. This natural concoction provided the necessary nourishment, reduced frizz, and protected my hair from environmental damage. But you can also try a scalp serum that targets hair fall concerns like this one.

Implementing Regular Hair Detoxes
When we use oils with mineral oil or hair products with chemicals like silicones, alcohol and what not, they leave a layer of build up on our hair that ultimately results in hair fall. It makes your hair unable to breathe and your entire hair health is hampered. I introduced monthly hair detoxes using clarifying shampoos to remove residues, or hair detox masks ensuring my scalp remained clean and receptive to treatments.
Prioritizing Scalp Health
A healthy scalp is the foundation for strong hair. I addressed issues like dandruff and itchiness by incorporating anti-fungal treatments, acv rinses, hot oil treatments and maintaining proper hygiene, creating an optimal environment for hair growth.
Incorporating Nutrient-Rich Foods
Diet played a big role in my journey to control hair fall. I leaned into a nourishing, hair-loving regimen, filling my plate with leafy greens, protein-packed legumes, and pulses, every bite felt like a step toward healthier hair. I made sure curd was a daily staple, not just for my gut, but because I knew its probiotics supported a healthy scalp.
But the game-changer?
I committed to eating one raw onion and two vibrant tomatoes every day. Onions, brimming with sulfur, became my natural ally in boosting collagen production, while the juicy tomatoes offered a burst of antioxidants to shield my hair follicles.
Using Wide-Tooth Wooden Combs
I swapped my old plastic combs for wide-tooth wooden ones, and it made such a difference. Wooden combs are so much gentler on the hair, helping to distribute natural oils from the scalp all the way down the strands, keeping them nourished and strong. Plus, they reduce static and breakage, something my fragile hair really appreciated. I specifically chose neem wood combs for their natural anti-fungal properties, which helped soothe my itchy scalp and kept things feeling fresh.

Protecting Hair From Environmental Damage
I took measures to protect my hair from pollution, UV rays, and harsh weather conditions. Wearing scarves, using UV-protectant sprays, and avoiding excessive heat styling were pivotal in preventing further damage.
I also got into the habit of adjusting my hair care routine to the demands of each season, giving my strands exactly what they needed. You can check out my go-to guides for summer, winter, and monsoon hair care to keep your locks resilient year-round
Practicing Balayam
Balayam, the practice of rubbing fingernails together, is believed to stimulate hair growth by increasing blood flow to the scalp. I know this seems like a complete myth but spending 5 minutes doing balayam to control my hair fall was something I didn’t mind doing.
Managing Stress Through Yoga & Meditation
Stress can exacerbate hair fall. I adopted stress-reducing practices like yoga and meditation, which not only improved my mental well-being but also positively impacted my hair health.
Over To you
Through dedication and consistency, I managed to regain approximately 80% of my lost hair volume. In the end, my hair fall control journey wasn’t just about the products or treatments, it was about rediscovering the power of simple, nurturing rituals and learning to listen to what my hair truly needed.
Every fallen strand told a story, and with each step, I was reclaiming not just healthier hair, but a little more confidence in myself. If you’re in a similar boat, trust me, be patient, show your hair and scalp some love, and it will love you back. Here’s to stronger, shinier, and healthier hair days ahead!
Note: Always consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new treatment or making significant changes to your health regimen.
Have a lovely day!

Don’t do this mistakes: now it a mistake that we make repeated making mistakes while comb our hair Friends, our biggest mistake is that we comb our wet hair which is wrong This also causes our hair to break friends, think yourself when we wash our hair, our hair becomes soft you comb, then your hair will go away, but you will also break down.
