It sounds weird, right?
Washing your hair with eggs has real benefits and is a real thing.
It is quite an effective way of cleaning your scalp and hair. While I first heard about egg wash, I felt bit weird. I thought it would make my hair greasier or leave the strong egg smell behind and thought it would be really messy.
But when I gave it a try, the homemade egg shampoo worked like a charm.

How To Make Egg Shampoo At Home?
To make this homemade egg shampoo you need very basic things that are easily available in your kitchen.
- Egg
- Shikakai Powder-3 tsp
- Lemon juice -1 tsp
- Rosemary Essential oil(optional)-4 drops
- Lavender essential oil (optional)-4 drops
Egg Wash For Hair Recipe
Take a bowl and crack open the egg.
Add Shikakai powder to it and mix everything very well nicely and you will have a mask with the consistency of a paste.
Adjust the consistency as you need for the shampoo by adding water or lemon juice. I like mine bit runny. It makes it easier to spread through my hair length and works better for me.
Add either Rosemary (if you have hair fall) or Lavender essential oil (if you want to trigger hair growth) to the shampoo.
Your homemade egg shampoo is ready to use.

How To Do An Egg Wash For Hair?
Let’s finally do this dirty deed and wash hair with eggs.
Wet your hair with cold or normal temperature water. Make sure to not use hot water.
Now pour the shampoo on your wet hair and scalp and emulsify it. Leave it on for 2 minutes.
Rinse your hair with normal tap water. And you are done 😉

Is Egg Wash Good For Your Hair?
Yes.
Egg contains lecithin which helps to clean the dirt and greasiness from your hair and scalp. This shampoo works for all hair types and is super effective remedy for hair fall.
Will This Remove Oil and Greasiness From My Hair?
Yes.
Eggs along with Shikakai are great emulsifiers that help in removing the oil and greasiness from your hair.
Can I Use Conditioner or Serum Afterwards?
I usually don’t need the conditioner or serum since the egg actually makes my hair silkier but if you like you can definitely use it.
Does This Egg Shampoo Smell Bad? Will The Egg Smell Linger On My Hair?
It does have the unpleasant egg smell to it.
To cover the smell you can add few drops of Rosemary essential oil or Lavender essential oil to the shampoo.
If you are afraid that the egg smell will linger on your hair, you can take lemon hair rinse, use a hair serum with nice fragrance or even make your own rose hair perfume.
You can also try the rose hair perfume recipe to make your hair smell good.
How Often Should You Do Egg Wash For Hari?
Using this homemade egg shampoo once a week is enough. More than that would actually result in protein buildup.
