Homemade Egg Shampoo: Wash Hair With Egg For Clean & Healthy Hair!

Have you ever considered washing your hair with egg?

It sounds intriguing and weird at the same time, right?

Washing your hair with eggs is a real thing. It is quite an effective way of cleaning your scalp and hair. While I first heard about it, I felt bit weird. I thought it would make my hair greasier or leave the strong egg smell behind and thought it would be really messy. But when I gave it a try, it worked like a charm.

The egg is a rich source of protein. It helps in making your hair stronger and grow faster. Eggs contain lot of vitamins like natural biotin, vitamin a, vitamin d, vitamin b12 and some others. These actually make egg quiet healthy option for your hair.

Egg shampoo actually makes your hair softer and adds a beautiful shine. It helps in removing dirt and greasiness from your scalp and hair. It actually adds life to your dull hair and makes it softer, smoother and more manageable.

This shampoo is completely natural and free of harsh chemicals. This won’t strip off the natural oils from your scalp leaving your hair dry and damaged. Plus within 2 minutes you get the benefit of using egg for hair.

How To Make Egg Shampoo At Home?

To make this shampoo you need very basic things that are actually readily available in your home.


Take a bowl and crack open the egg.

Now add Shikakai powder to it and mix everything very well nicely.

Now you will have the paste. Adjust the consistency as you need for the shampoo by adding water or lemon juice. I like mine bit runny. It makes it easier to spread through my hair length and works better for me.

Add either Rosemary or Lavender essential oil to the shampoo if you like.

Your homemade egg shampoo is ready to use.

How To Wash Hair With Eggs?

Now that your egg hair wash is ready to use, let’s finally do this!

Wet your hair with cold or normal temperature water. Make sure to not use hot water.

Now pour the egg shampoo on your wet hair and scalp and emulsify it. Leave it on for 2 minutes.

Now Rinse your hair with normal tap water. And you are done;)

Does The Egg Shampoo Really Work?

Yes, Egg contains lecithin which helps to clean the dirt and greasiness from your hair and scalp. This shampoo works for all hair types.

Will This Remove Oil From My Hair?

Yes! Egg along with Shikakai are great emulsifiers that help in removing the oil and greasiness from your hair.

Can I Use Conditioner or Serum Afterwards?

I usually don’t need the conditioner or serum since the egg actually makes my hair silkier but if you like you can definitely use it.

Does This Egg Shampoo Smell Bad? Will The Egg Smell Linger On My Hair?

It does have egg smell to it. To cover the smell you can add few drops of Rosemary essential oil or Lavender essential oil to the shampoo.

If you are afraid that the egg smell will linger on your hair, you can take lemon hair rinse, use a hair serum with nice fragrance or even make your own rose hair perfume. Sometimes I just use the plain rose water on my washed hair and my hair smells divine.

How Often Should You Use This Egg Shampoo?

Using this shampoo once a week is enough. More than that would actually result in protein buildup.
