Hey Friends,
Have you tried hair detox yet?
This is the post that I wanted to share that has played a really crucial role in my Hair Transformation. And I mean it. Few years back my hair were frizzy, dull and rough. Basically it looked like a bird’s nest. Sadly that’s true.
Whatever I did, whichever product I used, nothing gave me good results. Everything made my hair and scalp much worse. Can you relate to it? You know I spent thousands in salons, tried the most expensive products, and all the home remedies on the internet and what not. But everything just weighed my hair down and made them even frizzy and lifeless.
Then I came across a concept called Hair Detox. I know it seems like some complicated thing to do, but trust me all we are gonna do is apply a hair mask.
What is Hair Detox ?
Hair Detox is basically deep cleansing of your hair and scalp to remove toxins and the layer that is build-up on your hair and scalp.
Whenever you use a product, a hair mask or even oil (basically anything), it leaves a layer on your hair shaft. So, if you already have layers build up on your hair and you keep on applying more products, they do nothing good to your hair and scalp but actually just sits on surface of your hair and scalp. Thus making your hair more rough, frizzy and unmanageable.
That is why, you should do a Hair Detox at least once every two months.
How to do Hair Detox ???
The first time I did Hair Detox was about 2 years back and now I do it every month. If you are regular reader of HCS, then you might know that I have mentioned in most of my posts to do regular cleansing of your hair and scalp or using a good clarifying shampoo like Halo Shampoo with egg proteins at least once a month.
Here is a quick way to remove build up of years – A Hair Detox Mask!
Ingredients For making Hair Detox Mask
This detox mask is really easy to make and it just includes three ingredients. When it comes to hair care, these three ingredients are simply the best.

For Rinsing
Apple Cider Vinegar – 1 cup
Method
Step 1 : Take 4 tsp of Fuller’s Earth.
Step 2 : Add Equal quantity of Aloe Vera Gel. (I used fresh extracted Aloe Vera Gel but you can use the ones available in the market too, just make sure they are 100% organic).
Step 3 : Add 1 TSP ACV and mix well. Your Hair Detox mask is ready.
How to Use this Mask?
- Apply this mask on your hair and scalp.
- Use a shower cap to cover this mask and DO NOT let it dry.
- Keep the mask on for 30 to 40 minutes.
- Rinse with ACV and let the ACV sit on your hair for at least three minutes.
- Then shampoo and condition your hair as usual.
- Do not use water to dilute the mask if you feel the consistency is not good enough for you, add Aloe Vera Gel or ACV instead.
- Do not remove the mask directly with water it won’t come out properly. There is a reason that we are using ACV to rinse it off.
- The Recipe can be doubled or halved as per your hair length.
- Don’t do this more than once a month.
Benefits of Hair Detox
Hair detox basically helps you to
- Deep cleanse your hair and scalp
- Remove build up
- Give your hair and scalp a chance to breath
- Make your hair smooth and soft
- Help in stimulating hair growth
- Control hair fall
- Help in changing Hair Porosity
- Make hair shiny and adds volume
- Remove Split-Ends
- Soothe your scalp
- Remove flaky skin from scalp
This recipe is one of my favorite masks to great hair and I strongly recommend you to try this. Also along with this you should minimize use of heat for styling, different products and if you do, use a good clarifying shampoo once every 15 days.
Hope you like this post and it benefits you in some way.
Have a lovely day!!!
Can i experiment these with my 15 years old daughter? She had really thick and long hair and has been facing hair fall recently.
One question…washing hair is only to be done with ACV? or ACV + water?
yes. its for all hair types
Hey will this work for oily hair?
Hi Mia, I agree detox is extremely important. If you don’t fine Fuller’s earth, you can check for Bentonite Clay. It works great too.
i don’t use hair styling products, but i still believe a hair detox is beneficial as the commercialised shampoos and conditioners tend to leave residue in our hair and scalp as well. but may i ask what is Fullerβs Earth Clay? I’ve never heard of this and I doubt i can find it in my location, any substitutes for that?
I am glad it helped Trisha !!!
Yes, Sabine. I use Clarifying shampoos once a month. I prefer using Halo. It contains Egg yolks and works wonderfully for me. Your scalp right now definitely needs a detox. You should absolutely try it.
Hey Zwitsy, yes detox will deep cleanse your scalp which in turn will control hair fall but if you are facing too much hair fall lately then you must check out this post https://www.haircaresquare.com/how-to-control-hair-fall/
Thats really sad to hear. I am sure, detox will help !!!
Hey Dianne, I agree most people are not aware of hair detox. Hence, I wanted to share it.
This is the first time I heard about hair detox and I want to do this at house. Detox term is not only for the body π
I didn’t know about hair detox and in fact, it is my first time to hear about it. Just wondering, though; does it cure hair fall?
Thank you for sharing this. I need this badly. my hair is dry guess because of the treatment I used give it before π
Thanks Stella !!!
Its a pleasure Robert π
Thank you so much. Now I understand better.
Glad you are feeling better! Thanks for this recipe. I have long hair and I use a lot of product on it so I’ve used apple cider vinegar as a cleansing rinse. I’ve never tried a mask though! I will check it out.
This is a very comprehensive guide. My hair is so dry from chasing summer all year long and this is a good and easy guide I can follow. Thanks for sharing, Klaudia!
Thanks Angie !!!
Thanks Erika !!!
Hey Ella, on the contrary it works like a charm on dry scalp. I have dry scalp and it just works amazing. Hope this helps π
Hi Robert, If you don’t wanna try this detox mask you can always use a good clarifying shampoo to remove build ups. Only clarifying shampoos helps in removing build ups. Also, you should never use a clarifying shampoo more than twice a month otherwise it removes natural oils from your scalp. Hope this helps π
Berlin, it is readily available in local shops or even online. π
Thanks /maria, I am pretty positive about that. Give it a try !!!
I agree Klaudia, ACV is awesome !!!!
That is so sweet of you Jessica. Thanks π
Lately I have some issues with my scalp. I have some dry areas which are itching a bit. It feels like eczema. Now that I read this, maybe I should do a detox. Maybe it’s just build up layers. I’ve heard that there are special detox shampoos, but you prefer to use this?
I value my hair most and been trying to make it as natural as possible, but I never tried hair detox. I bookmarked this post as a guide whenever I plan to do it. π
Thanks for this great advice ! That sounds very promising , I will certainly follow your easy explained instructions , I love all natural home made products and remedies. And the apple cider vinegar anyway is such an all-round talent !
This is a very helpful post! This could help me get my old hair back. π
This post is really very informative. I wasnt aware of hair detox and its importance. Now, i should give my hair the treatment it very well deserve. i am familiar with the two ingredients expect for the clay. I believe beauty shops offer that? Thank you.
I have a question. If I do not do hair detox, by using another brand (shampoo), does it help in removing the old residues (which will be replaced by the new brand)?
This mask sound really good however, if you have dry skin on the scalp this might not be so good because of the apple vinegar
Very cool! I have to do a detox a lot for my hair too. It’s so dry here in Canada
loved reading your details of how to perform the detox. I have never really thought about detoxing hair thanks for sharing
Hey Nya,
Would love to hear your experience. Please do share it. Thanks for commenting π
This is a very interesting and instructive post. I love my hair but it does get tendency to get weak very easily, and falls very easily, so I definitely want to start taking more care of it. I will give a try to hair detox, and will let you know how it went.
