Reader’s Query
Hello Nimisha, I am Natalia. I am in my mid-twenties and I am really worried that I will go bald. I am losing so much of hair daily that I can’t even begin to explain.
I lose more than 100 strands each time I brush my hair and it just breaks my heart. I also have really stubborn dandruff. I have tried a lot of different home remedies but have left with nothing but huge disappointment. I am totally confused. I don’t have any medical conditions either like thyroid or anything.
But I am still losing so much hair. I follow a simple hair care routine. I oil my hair once a week with coconut oil and shampoo and condition my hair twice a week and brush my hair three times a day. Please advice what should I do???
I am really confused how to get rid of dandruff and hair fall???
Thank you.
Love,
Natalia
My Solution on How to Get Rid of Dandruff and Hair Fall
Hey Natalia,
First of all, thank you for considering me your friend and pouring your heart out. I feel so happy that you guys share your problems with me so comfortably. It really means a lot. Also, don’t worry you are not alone. I have been there. I know how much it breaks your heart when you lose your precious hair.
Hope my solution helps you out.
Choose the Right Hair Products
The first thing you need to do is to chose the right hair products. The wrong and harsh products that would strip off natural oils from your scalp are a big no-no.
Oil
Since you mentioned that you oil your hair once a week with coconut oil(make sure you are using the one that is virgin and completely organic), try doing it overnight and if possible at least oil your hair twice a week.
While you apply the oil, if you are using coconut oil, heat your oil using indirect heat method and add two camphor and oil from 2 vitamin E capsules to it and let it dissolve.
Apply this oil and massage your hair and scalp well. Wear your shower cap or a plastic bag to help penetrate the heat in. Keep it overnight if possible.
You can also add 4 drops of tea tree oil to it. It would be more effective. Read more about it here.
Shampoo
If you are using a shampoo that contains Sulfates then change it immediately. It might be the root cause of your dandruff and hair fall. Use a natural and sulfate free shampoo instead.
My favorites are Rustic Art's Biodegradable Shampoo, IHA Biospume Shampoo, Divine Love Shampoo, McArthur Shampoo with Papaya extracts or Iles Formula.
All these are SLS free and worked great for me.
But if you really like the shampoo you are using and don’t want to change it, then simply add an asprin to your shampoo. Check out this post for complete recipe and other details. Also make sure you are not washing your hair daily. Wash your hair only twice or thrice a week. No more than that.

Conditioner
Make sure you are using a silicone free conditioner. Silicone in conditioner actually leaves a layer of build up on top of your scalp and makes your scalp greasy, flaky and itchy.
To remove this, you need to do a hair detox at least once every three months or use a clarifying shampoo once a month. My favorite silicone free conditioners are Divine love herbal conditioner, Iha kerasoft conditioner, Iles Fomula and Tvakh Multivitamin conditioner.
Also make sure you are not letting the conditioner or your hair serum touch your scalp. This triggers dandruff too.
Serum
I would recommend using Argan oil instead of your regular hair serum. The reason being, argan oil would keep your scalp nourished and will help in control your hair loss. And don’t worry, it won’t weigh your hair down either.
Fenugreek and Aloe Vera Hair Mask
Start using this hair mask once a week and you will notice a huge difference in your hair and scalp. It will not only treat dandruff and hair fall but will also make your hair healthier. Check out the complete recipe here.
Make Lemons your BFF
Lemon and Yogurt Hair Mask for dandruff and hair fall
This is my personal favorite, tried and tested hair mask that actually have always delivered me great results. Simply take 2 TSP yogurt and add 1 TSP lemon juice to it. Mix well and apply to your scalp generously. It works really well. You can read more about this mask here.
Lemon Hair Rinse
Start using lemon water as a hair rinse. This will ensure that your scalp’s ph level is balanced.
Drink Lemon Water
Drinking lemon water, the first thing in the morning actually helps in flushing your toxins out. Make sure you are drinking it regularly. This will help you achieve healthier hair inside out.
Start Incorporate These Super Foods in Your Daily Diet
Eating right has great effect on your body. Start incorporating Ginger, Chickpeas, Papaya, Garlic and lot of green leafy vegetables in your daily diet.
Start drinking lot of water, at least 12-15 glasses daily. No Exceptions!
If you like drinking tea, switch to green tea instead of normal tea.
Practice Yoga
Practicing yogasanas will make your hairs healthy and will treat dandruff and hair loss too. Sarvangasana, Chinmudra, Paschimottasana and Matsyasana work great for hair’s overall health.
Make sure you are doing these. You can google them or seek the help of local yoga trainer for better help on this.
Avoid Sun and Pollution
Last week, I wrote a post on hair products with SPF that protects your hair from sun damage. I have also mentioned a diy to protect your hair from sun damage.
Always make sure you are covering your hair and scalp really well with hat or scarf or dupatta before you step into the harsh UV rays and Pollution.
The reason being, sunrays are more harsh on your hair and scalp then they are on you skin.
Don’t Scratch
I know how bad it itches and how hard it is not to scratch. But scratching would weaken your hair follicles and will result into breakage. Avoid scratching your scalp at any cost. I have used Rustic Art's Hair therapy gel and it had worked great for me.
Whenever I feel the need to scratch, I use this hair therapy gel instead. It soothes my scalp but ya you need to wash your hair after an hour of it.
Use Wooden Combs
Using helps in better distribution of natural oils throughout the scalp. This will in turn make your hair stronger and they won’t fall out easily. Plus will grow faster.
Always remember, the secret to healthy hair is a healthy scalp. Also make sure you check out my hair care routine to control hair fall. It really helped me get my lost hair back.
