I had a terrible dandruff problem and this is exactly how I got rid of my dandruff naturally in a month.
If dandruff is one of your major hair problems?
Then, I am sure by now you must have googled a lot of different products and home remedies to get rid of dandruff naturally or completely. Some might have given temporary relief while some might have turned into a complete disaster. Right?
I understand.
I have been there and done that all.
Since I started my Reader’s Queries Series, there hardly goes a day by when I don’t receive a hair query regarding dandruff. So, today I am sharing another one of my personal hair journey of how I got rid of dandruff naturally within a month.
What I Did To Get Rid Of The Dandruff Naturally In A Month?
Here is everything I did to get rid of stubborn dandruff naturally that too within a month.
Yes, it is doable!
You just need to follow this simple hair care routine and some tips consistently for 30 days. I know it sounds boring but it sure delivers effective results.
I Oiled My Hair Twice A Week
As always the most important part of my hair care routine is the hair oiling treatment. I believe not only oiling your hair is necessary but oiling your hair the right way with the hair oil that suits your hair type is of utmost importance.
Here Is My Go-To DIY Hair Oil For Dandruff
You can also try neem oil or kalonji oil for dandruff relief too.
Here is a quick #HairCareTipbyHCS for you
If you are currently using any particular hair oil and just want to keep using it but want it to be more effective on your dandruff, then just heat your oil using indirect heat method and add two camphor tablets to it. Let it dissolve completely and then apply. Keep it overnight and wash it off the next morning.

Here is another quick #HairCareTipbyHCS
If you are struggling with dandruff opt for hair oil that is cold pressed and mineral oil free.
I Massaged My Hair Every Day!
I have developed this habit for over a year now that I massage my hair for 5 minutes before going to bed every night. This stimulates the blood circulation which helps to achieve healthy scalp from within.
Also, every time I oil my hair, I massage them very gently with my fingertips(not nails) and use very little pressure. This ensures that the oil reaches deep within my scalp and I don’t lose more hair while massaging my hair.
I Pampered My Oiled Hair With Steam Before Every Wash
Before shampooing your oiled hair, make sure you pamper them with a little steam. (I personally use my thermal cap but you can also use a hot towel for the same). Steam actually helps the oil to go deep in your scalp and this, in turn, helps you with your dry and itchy scalp. Start doing this every time you wash your hair, and you will soon notice a wonderful difference in your scalp’s condition.

I Used A Shampoo That Contains Salicylic Acid
Opting for the right shampoo is one of the crucial steps when it comes to right hair care. If you have dandruff, avoid shampoo that contains SLS, parabens, preservatives, added fragrances and opt for ones that contain salicylic acid.
If you don’t have the flaky scalp and just facing the issue of itchy scalp, try using a shampoo that works for lice like Mediker shampoo. This is because sometimes there are small germs on your scalp that are the main culprit behind your itchy scalp. Wash your hair with it twice a week and you will see that you have a healthier scalp.
Also, don’t over wash. If you wash your hair more than three times a week, it will remove the layer of natural oils on your scalp. This layer is necessary to prevent dandruff and dry scalp.

I Used The Right Conditioner The Right Way
The most important thing you need to keep in mind is to opt for a silicone free conditioner. Silicone actually contributes to your scalps bad health. Make sure to opt for a good silicone free conditioner.
And while you are applying your conditioner, keep it at least an inch or two away from your scalp. Conditioners are made to pamper your hair and not your scalp. If you apply conditioner on your scalp, it disturbs the natural ph level of your scalp. So make sure you apply a good conditioner only to your lengths and away from your scalp. No exceptions!

Hair rinse is something that I believe can be a game changer for your hair. It delivers results within the first time itself after you try them. If you are clueless about what hair rinse method is, please check out this detailed post.
- ACV Hair Rinse for the Rescue: Acv rinse is one of the best things you can do for your dandruff. Just dilute one tablespoon of ACV into two glass of water and just pour it onto your scalp. Now don’t rinse it off and just keep it on your scalp. The acv helps to naturally balance and maintain your scalp’s natural ph level and you will experience a very soothing and itch-free experience.

I Opted For Hair Detox
Since I became serious about taking good care of my hair, hair detox became a must for me. I detox my hair every two months. This has helped in improving the overall health of my hair and scalp.
I Avoided Over Coloring
I have grey hair. Had them since my teenage years. I usually cover them using my hair oil but sometimes I like coloring my hair. But the harsh chemicals in hair colors disturbs your scalps ph like nothing else. So, for a month I made sure to stay away from hair coloring treatments.
Also a quick HairCareTipbyHCS
Don’t apply henna and hair color without keeping a gap of minimum 2 months between them otherwise unknowingly you might develop an allergy from either of them.

Other Hair Care Tips For Dandruff
Avoid Harsh Treatments Like Bleaching, Perming, Smoothening Or Other
All these treatments are extremely harsh not only on your hair but also on your scalp. If you have dandruff please stay away from these harsh treatments. Especially the smoothening and straightening treatments are a big no-no!
Use a Silk Pillow
Silk pillow does not strip off the natural oil from your scalp while you sleep unlike your normal cotton pillowcases. If you have dandruff replace your pillowcase with silk ones.
Drink More Water And Less Caffeine Or Tea
I can’t stress enough but staying hydrated helps to get rid of dandruff the quickest. Drink an at least 10-12 glass of water and drink less coffee, tea, and alcoholic beverages. And if you can drink green tea, there is nothing like it.
Stress Triggers Dandruff
If you haven’t noticed it yet, then stress not only gifts you hair fall but also dandruff. Leading a happy life is very important. Make sure that you meditate, do yoga and stay away from stress.
Never Ever Scratch
I know if it itches, you are bound to scratch your head. But this is one of the biggest mistakes you can ever make. If you scratch with your nails, it just multiplies the problem and bacterial infection and hampers your scalp’s health. If you continue this for a long time and are harsh while scratching, in the long run, you might even develop a bald patch.
If it itches bad, apply a small amount of or aloe vera gel or just pour acv rinse on your scalp and it will give you relief.
