Is Ashwini hair oil good or bad for your hair? Is Ashwini Homeo Arnica really the best hair oil for hair fall control and dandruff? Is the homeopathic treatment the answer to all your hair and scalp concerns?
It’s a fair query to cross your mind after so many marketing gimmicks in our world only a few actually test true to the claims. So, if you are wondering whether Ashwini hair oil is good or bad? Will it help you with your hair fall and dandruff problems, then I am here to answer all those queries.
I will be sharing a detailed Ashwini Homeo Arnica hair oil review with all the benefits, side effects, and everything in between along with my experience using this hair oil.
Let’s begin.
Ashwini Hair Oil Review
Here is what the product claims:
Aswini Hair Oil is a unique blend of nature’s most powerful ingredients that nourishes your hair and revitalizes your scalp. This luxurious hair oil is crafted with pure coconut oil, arnica, and cantharis to provide the ultimate hair care solution for all hair types. Ashwini Homeo Arnica Hair oil claims to reduce hair fall and dandruff.
The Appearance
Honestly, the packaging looks really bad and ugly in my opinion.
I wish they could revamp the packaging as they might be losing so many potential customers just because this hair oil is wrapped in such bad packaging. The oil comes in a green bottle with a flip-flop cap which is not that secure either.
Texture and Scent
Ashwini Homeo Arnica Hair Oil is green in color and spreads evenly easily. It has a medium-thick consistency that makes it easy to apply evenly.
You just require 3 to 4 TSP to cover shoulder-length hair. But if have long Indian hair like me then you might need more to cover your entire hair length and scalp well.
But there is another big turn-off.
The hair oil smells like you are carrying the entire Ayurvedic store on your head because of the really strong smell.
Price and Shelf Life
To my surprise, this hair oil is reasonably low-priced. The one I bought was Rs.33 for 50 ml and it has a shelf life of 2 years.
Ingredients Of Ashwini Homeo Arnica Hair Oil
Each 100 ml Contains Arnc Mont 0.5 ml, Cantharis 0.5 ml, Cinchona 0.2 ml, Pilocarpine 0.2 ml In Pure Coconut Oil Q.S. Alcohol 0.98% V/V.
While I couldn’t find much details about these ingredients nor did I find scientific research on them. I did find,
- Arnica is known for its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. These qualities can be beneficial for maintaining a healthy scalp.
- Cantharis is believed to stimulate hair follicles, potentially promoting hair growth. While there are limited scientific studies on Cantharis specifically for hair that I could find, it has been historically used in homeopathic preparations for various health conditions.
- Cinchona is rich in quinine, which can help improve blood circulation to the scalp which in turn stimulates hair growth.
- Pilocarpine is a compound known to stimulate hair growth and reduce hair loss.
- Coconut oil is rich in fatty acids that can penetrate the hair shaft, providing nourishment and preventing protein loss from the hair. It also promotes hair growth and moisturizes extremely dry hair well.
- The alcohol content in the product may serve as a solvent to extract the active components from the herbs used in the oil. It is essential to note that the alcohol content in this product is relatively low (0.98% V/V), and it is primarily used as a carrier for herbal extracts.
I tried my best to find as much as I could about the ingredients of Ashwini hair oil. But this is the best I could gather from the internet.
Ashwini Hair Oil Is Good For Your Hair Because:
- Natural Ingredients: Ashwini Homeo Arnica Hair Oil contains natural ingredients such as Arnica, Coconut Oil, and more. Natural ingredients are generally well-tolerated and may provide various benefits for hair and scalp health.
- Arnica Extract: Arnica is believed to have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, which can be beneficial for maintaining a healthy scalp.
- It does help to a certain extent to control hair fall. But I prefer opting for rosemary essential oil for hair fall control or Mielle hair oil comparatively.
- Pocket Friendly.
Ashwini Hair Oil Is Bad For Your Hair Because
- Limited Scientific Evidence: While some of the ingredients have been traditionally used for hair care, there may be limited scientific research specifically supporting the effectiveness of this specific product. The product’s claims are often based on traditional knowledge and anecdotal evidence. It may not have undergone clinical testing to substantiate its specific benefits for hair and scalp health. Or I just didn’t find the link to the studies. If you do please share it along, I would love to update it here.
- Individual Variability: Hair care products often yield different results for different individuals. It triggered hair loss initially which wasn’t my experience with other hair oils I have used before. So that was a big turn-off for me.
- Alcohol Content: While the alcohol content is relatively low, some individuals may be sensitive to alcohol in hair products, and it can potentially cause dryness or irritation in certain cases. I personally prefer not using any hair products with alcohol content which is my hair sprays are alcohol-free too.
- Availability: The product may not be widely available in all regions, which can be a drawback for potential buyers looking for easy access.
- Very Strong Unpleasant Smell.
My Experience Using Ashwini Hair Oil
If you have ever visited this beauty blog before, you might already know that I preach the benefits of Indian hair oiling routine followed by scalp massage and hair steaming.
To use the oil, I warmed it up using the double boiler method to enhance its nutrients. Then applied a small amount to my scalp and hair, massaging it gently to ensure even distribution. It’s recommended to leave it on for at least an hour or overnight for deep conditioning.
I preferred leaving it overnight for maximum benefits but the smell was so strong, I had to wash it within an hour. I have used this hair oil for about 20 days now and for the first week, I experienced that my hair fall increased initially.
But then I went online and read that it is normal for the first few applications.
After the third try, my hair fall was somewhat reduced. I, however, didn’t find any difference in dandruff. I finally had to try my yogurt mask and Lemon rinse to get rid of dandruff.
But I saw a considerable difference in my hair fall. My hair has become a bit thicker too. But it is still a long way to go. I honestly expected much more from this hair oil, considering it was a homeopathic treatment.
But sadly, all it did was reduce hair fall which you can achieve by making this hair regrowth hair oil at home instead.
When comparing Ashwini hair oil v/s Indulekha bringha hair oil v/s Mahabringraj oil, I found Mahabhringraj oil worked better for me. But it’s an individual preference and experience is all I can say.

Conclusion: Is Ashwini Hair Oil Good Or Bad For Your Hair?
The Ashwini hair oil is good for your hair as it uses very unique ingredients to treat your hair and scalp issues. It nourishes hair well, controls hair oil, and is very reasonably priced.
However, the strong fragrance and the initial triggered hair loss make me not want to opt for Ashwini hair oil again.
You can give it a try but only if you are struggling with hair fall. For hair fall and hair volume, this hair oil gave me good results but other than that I would recommend opting for other hair oils for thicker hair growth.

Hey SMita, for frizzy hair, try jojoba oil or argan oil which suits you the best. just make sure its cold pressed and not loaded with mineral oil. Also since you have frizzy hair make sure you use a shampoo that is sls free and chk out this post for more details on how to take care of your frizzy hair. https://haircaresquare.com/how-to-moisturize-extremely-dry-hair/
