Let’s discuss this in detail.
Is Redken Shampoo Good For Your Hair?
Redken shampoos have been around for decades and they have found a very loyal fanbase despite its higher price point when compared to other shampoos on the market. But is Redken shampoo good for your hair? Or will Redken shampoo lead to hair loss?
Let us take it step by step.
Redken Shampoo Is Good For Your Hair Because
- It is formulated with high-quality ingredients like argan oil, protein constituents, ceramides, hydrolyzed soy protein, Arginine(it is a building block of protein that claims to improve your hair health), Sepicap(claims to benefit your hair fibers and is Redken’s trademarked ingredient that you will find exclusively in its formulations) and others that benefit your hair health.
- Redken shampoo is good for all hair types including chemically treated and color-treated hair.
- Has a lot of good options for every hair problem to find your ideal shampoo.
- Redken has a loyal fanbase.
- Redken shampoos do deliver good results.
- Redken has around 60 global patents registered to its credit.
- The formulations are science-backed and dermatologically tested.

Redken Big Blowout Heat Protection Jelly Serum
This is one product that I haven’t tried yet but I am really tempted to get my hands on it. It’s a heat protectant that promises to give an instant boost of volume along with heat protection. So if you have fine hair or are on your thin to thick hair journey, then this is a good option to consider. You can also include a volumizing mousse in your hair care routine for that extra-voluminous look.

Redken Flash Lift Blonde Idol Lightening Powder
This is an ideal bleach for dark hair that will help you achieve subtle as well as dramatic results. It has been formulated to work on all hair types, including colored hair, long Indian hair, virgin Brazilian hair, and hair extensions. It is also great because it comes with a color-deposit indicator that lets you know when it’s time to stop bleaching your hair. It can help lift your hair color by 8 shades.
Redken Shampoo Is Bad For Your Hair Because
- It contains some not-so-good ingredients in its formulation like added fragrance(which triggers sensitive scalp irritation), Coumarin(toxic for your lung health), and contains preservatives like benzoic acid, benzyl alcohol, potassium sorbate, and phenoxyethanol which can be toxic for humans), and added dye(carcinogenic ingredient).
- Not curly girl method friendly.
- Redken shampoo is not cruelty-free nor is vegan. If you are vegan or prefer using vegan hair care products then I would recommend you to look elsewhere.
- The price point is a bit on the higher side when compared to others on the market.
- Redken has a pending class action lawsuit where it was claimed that Redken dry shampoos contain a carcinogenic ingredient called benzene in its formulation. However, when you check the packaging benzene is not listed on the ingredients list. The case is still pending but I figured, you need to know all the information. As and when I have more information on this, I will update it here.
Is Redken Cruelty-free?
No, Redken is not cruelty-free. It continues to sell its products in countries where unfortunately animal testing is still a mandatory law. Also, Redken is owned by Loreal which is also not a cruelty-free brand. Although when you check their website, you will find it stated that they are constantly updating their policies and they don’t test their products on animals.
But Redken is listed in PETA’s brands that test on animal’s list. If you prefer using truly cruelty-free hair care products then I would recommend you to look elsewhere.
Is Redken Vegan?
No, Redken is not a vegan brand. Some of the Redken products contain cetyl alcohol and stearyl or either it is by-products. These are used as thickening agents in their formulations and these are animal-derived ingredients making Redken not a vegan hair care brand.
However, Redken does have a vegan shampoo in its range that you can give a try.

Over To You: Is Redken Shampoo Good Or Bad?
Redken shampoo is good as you get so many options that help you solve your targetted hair problem. The shampoos do deliver good results which is the exact reason behind the loyal fanbase of Redken shampoos and other hair products. The shampoos are suitable for mostly all hair types.
You can find a good shampoo for your colored hair or purple shampoo for your blonde hair or a good hair straightening shampoo. You name it and Redken has a good shampoo for your hair’s current needs.
However, you should always look at the ingredients list of not only Redken shampoos but any shampoo that you use. As Redken shampoos contain added fragrance, it may trigger the sensitive scalp. Plus, Redken shampoos are not good for people looking for CGM-friendly products, cruelty-free or vegan products.
