So let’s discuss.
About The Brand: Biolage
Biolage was started in 1990 in New York by a hairstylist named Arnie Miller. Biolage products were formerly up for grabs on the Matrix website but now sold independently with Loreal as its parent company. You can read more about them here.
Biolage is a well-known hair care brand that instantly gained popularity due to its natural formulations using the best ingredients sourced from different countries. They were the first ones to launch a silicone-free conditioner which they later sold as a conditioning balm.

Biolage Is Bad For Your Hair Because
It is not as free of harsh chemicals and as natural as they claim to be. You will easily find sulfates and added fragrances listed on their hair products.
Plus, Biolage is not a cruelty-free or vegan brand. It still tests its products on animals whenever necessary. If you are vegan, you might find it a bit difficult to find your ideal hair product in their haircare range.
Biolage is not Curly girl method friendly either. If you are looking for CG-friendly products you might need to look elsewhere.
FAQ
Is Biolage Cruelty-Free?
Biolage is not cruelty-free.
It adopts the exact animal testing policies from its parent company Loreal. Plus, Biolage sells its hair products in Mainland China where unfortunately animal testing is still mandatory.
Thus, Biolage may test their products on animals either themselves or via a third party whenever needed. Hence, Biolage is not cruelty-free.
Is Matrix Biolage Vegan?
No. Biolage is not entirely vegan.
Although they have a good number of hair products that are vegan unfortunately some of their hair products contains animal-derived products or by-products.
Does Biolage Dry Out Hair?
No, Biolage doesn’t dry out your hair. Unless you are using Biolage clean reset normalizing shampoo which is a clarifying shampoo that contains SLS. It may leave your hair a bit dry over time, so use it sparingly. If you have dry hair, you can opt for Biolage Hydrasource shampoo instead.
Is Biolage Shampoo Good For Hair Loss?
Biolage’s thickening shampoo with biotin does help to prevent hair breakage. But it doesn’t do much if you are experiencing severe hair loss. You can try one of these best shampoos for hair fall control instead.
Does Biolage Have Sulfates?
Yes, Biolage has some sulfate-free shampoos but not all the shampoos by Biolage are SLS-free shampoos. You can check out the list of best sls-free shampoos here.
Conclusion
Is Biolage good for your hair? Or is it bad for your hair?
Biolage is good for your hair if you pick the right set of products for your hair type and need. Its products are free of the most harsh chemicals like silicone, parabens, and others. Their products are affordable, travel-friendly, and easily available too.
It is bad for your hair since some of their hair products contain added fragrance and they aren’t cruelty-free either. If you prefer vegan hair products then you might need to look elsewhere because Biolage has very limited vegan products.
You be your own judge and decide: Is Biolage good for your hair or is it bad for your hair?
