Being a member of the dry hair and even dryer skin family, I am always looking for ingredients that have great nourishing and hydrating properties. And on my quest to find the best ingredient to soothe my dryness issues, I stumbled upon the good ole avocado oil.
Benefits of Avocado Oil
With so many different oils already available in the market, you might be wondering why I specifically opted for avocado oil?
The reason is fairly straightforward.
Avocado oil has numerous benefits when it comes to caring for your hair, skin and overall health. Here are some of the reasons that made me switch from regular coconut oil to avocado oil:
- Rapidly absorbs into the skin and hair
- One of the healthiest cooking oils
- Lighter oil which doesn’t weigh down your hair or break out your skin
- Doesn’t clog pores
- Rich in oleic acid and monounsaturated fates it’s ideal to prevent hair breakage
- It nourishes skin and scalp effectively by penetrating deeply
- It’s an excellent source of vitamin E which helps in repairing hair and skin effectively.
How I Use Avocado For My Hair?
Ideally, I use avocado oil like I use others.
I take 3-4 tsp of oil, warm it up using the indirect heat method and massage it on my scalp softly using my fingertips. Leave it on for at least an hour or overnight. But if I am dealing with some hair problem at the time that needs special attention, then I add few ingredients to my avocado oil.
DIY For Treating Hair Loss:
I take 1 tsp of fenugreek seeds or black onion seeds (kalonji) whichever I have handy and soak them overnight in 3 tsp of avocado oil. Then I strain the oil, add 3 drops of rosemary essential oil to it, warm it up for few seconds using the indirect heat method and apply the oil to my hair and scalp well. Leave it overnight and wash it off the following morning.
The fenugreek seeds or the black onion seeds are excellent ingredients when it comes to combating hair loss. When combined with the deep penetrating properties of avocado oil, the results are quick and long-lasting. Do try it, you won’t be disappointed.

Deep Conditioning Treatment For Your Dry Hair
This is the diy that I use most often.
Take 2 tsp of avocado oil, 1 whole egg (yes I use yolk as well as the egg whites here), 1 tsp of honey, and mix it well. Apply the mask well concentrating more on your hair length and dry ends. Leave it on for 30 minutes and then rinse it off with cold water first followed by your favorite shampoo and conditioner.
This mask not only hydrates hair within one go but also adds a beautiful shine to your hair.

How I Use Avocado Oil For My Skin?
As I mentioned above, I belong to the extremely dry skin family. That is why I constantly need to pamper my skin with some moisturizer.
Avocado oil being an excellent source of that extra boost of hydration, has a soothing effect that my skin desires. And with its quick-absorbing properties combined with a lightweight consistency, it’s the best ingredient to heal my dry skin.
To incorporate avocado oil in my skincare routine, I simply wash my face with my VLCC neem facewash with chamomile and tea tree extracts and tone it up curry leaves hydrosol. Then I take 1 tsp of avocado oil and massage it using my fingertips until the oil penetrates deep into my skin.
Within a week, you will notice your skin more plump and healthy and after 2 weeks others will start noticing your healthy skin too. The compliments will keep coming. Trust me on this.
The oil not only works well in hydrating skin but being an excellent source of vitamin E it is ideal to tackle your dark circles. I also use it as a makeup remover and it works fabulously.
