Have you tried using coconut oil as leave-in conditioner?
As someone who is a member of the dry hair family, I tend to try new tips to keep my hair moisturized.
If like me, you too are looking for a way to nourish your hair in a better way, try using coconut oil as a leave-in conditioner.
I have often shared on this hair blog, that I use rosehip oil or argan oil instead of hair serum. But recently I saw this DIY on Pinterest where you can use coconut oil as a leave-in. I thought it seemed interesting but felt that it might weigh down my hair.

So as your guinea pig, I gave it a go.
How To Use Coconut Oil As Leave-in Conditioner?
To use your coconut oil as a hydrating leave-in mask, start by washing your hair with a good SLS-free shampoo.
Follow up with your hair conditioner, hair rinse, and proceed with the extra virgin coconut oil (better if it contains biotin extracts like this one).
Just take 10-12 drops of coconut oil on your palm and rub it a little to warm it up a bit. Apply it like you would use hair serum on your damp hair.
Let your hair air dry.
And leave the coconut oil on your hair to work its magic until you wash your hair the next time.
Just make sure you apply a very little amount of coconut oil to your damp hair. This will ensure your hair won’t be weighed down but stay hydrated.
Why Would Coconut Oil Benefit Your Hair When Used As Leave-in?
Using coconut oil as a leave-in conditioner because of the following benefits:
Moisturizes dry hair
Being an oil that penetrates hair, it softens hair and keeps them moisturized.
When you use coconut oil on damp hair, it keeps your hair nourished and hydrated for a longer duration. If you practice this diy every week, you will notice a great difference in your hair health.
Prevents hair health and loss
When used after washing, coconut oil helps as a binding agent that works well to keep the hair protein complex intact, thus preventing hair loss.
Protects from pollution and sun damage
Like our skin, our hair suffers damage when it comes in constant contact with pollution and harmful sun rays. But when you use coconut oil as a leave-in conditioner, the antioxidants and fatty acids in the coconut oil help to protect the hair shafts from further damage.

Prevents split-ends
When we sleep, our hair suffers a lot of friction which in turn gifts you split ends. But if you use coconut oil as leave-in, it protects your hair from this friction and minimizes split ends.
How To Enhance The Effect Of Coconut Oil As Leave-in Conditioner?
I tried using coconut oil for the last two weeks and my hair is more frizz-free and appears healthy. This week, I tried added aloe vera to coconut oil before using it as a leave-in and the results were much much better.
My hair felt more straight, healthy, nourished, and shiny too.
The only downside of using coconut oil as leave-in is that your hair gets greasy a lot quicker than before. Like earlier I used to wash my hair twice a week but now I feel the urge to wash it thrice. I resisted it by using my dry shampoo.
Which Coconut Oil Did I Use?
I used this one. It has natural biotin extracts so it works better 🙂
Over To You
If you have dry, damaged, and frizzy hair, then this diy would work really well for you. Your hair will appear healthy, manageable, and shiny.
But if you are from an oily hair family and your hair gets greasy in a day, I would not recommend you to use coconut oil as your leave-in mask.
Hope you find this diy helpful. Let me know if you have any recommendations for me to try.
Have a lovely day.
