Is Paul Mitchell Shampoo Good For Your Hair? Does Paul Mitchell Cause Hair Loss?

It is a fair query to cross your mind after so many shampoos fail to lead up to the claims that they promise.

Paul Mitchell shampoo is good for your hair because it offers high-quality salon-like products that are made with exclusively picked plant-based ingredients that have been perfected over the years. Paul Mitchell shampoos are best known for preventing your hair color from fading and keeping your scalp at its best health.

The best part is that all these shampoos are free of harsh chemicals like SLS, parabens, mineral oils, and silicones and are made of 100% plant-based ingredients.

But the higher price point along with some questionable ingredients list and lawsuits against Paul Mitchell raises doubt about whether Paul Mitchell shampoo is good or bad for your hair. If you too are wondering about it, then read on because I will be sharing all the pros, cons, and everything in between like I did for BioSilk shampooRedken shampooKerastase shampoo, Herbal Essences shampoo, and others in the past.

  • Paul Mitchell hair products are high quality but they are available at higher price points too, aka, Paul Mitchell is not available at affordable prices unless you stock them up on some sale.
  • The products have added fragrance which might irritate your scalp especially if you have a sensitive scalp or irritated scalp.
  • Their shampoos do contain SLS and SLES which might cause scalp irritation and hair dryness in the long run.
  • Paul Mitchell shampoo might not be safe for your hair as it contains some irritants and allergens like gluten, added fragrance, and preservatives like Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Methylchloroisothiazolinone and Methylisothiazolinone. You might also find DMDM hydantoin which is another ingredient you need to stay long away from.
  • Some of their hair products contain Dimethicone which is a silicone that might lead to product build-up on your hair and scalp.
  • Paul Mitchell is not a curly girl method-friendly as it contains SLS and SLES in its formulation.
  • Some Paul Mitchell shampoos are bad for your hair as they contain micro-particles which if not rinsed properly might stay stuck to your hair shafts or irritate your scalp. So you need to wash your hair with water real nice after using these shampoos or any shampoos with microparticles in them.
  • There was a class action lawsuit filed against Paul Mitchell Invisiblewear Brunette dry shampoo for a high level of benzene (carcinogenic ingredient) in its formulation. You can read more about the class action lawsuit here

In 2017, we successfully gained acceptance to market select Paul Mitchell® and Tea Tree products in China — without animal testing!

After forming a dedicated team, creating relationships with experts and educators, and partnering with a U.S.-based testing facility, we can service hairstylists and guests in China while maintaining our core corporate value of zero animal testing.
