“How to make your hair smell good all day?
Is shampoo the only way to go? Are hair perfumes a good option to consider for this?
I want my hair to smell good especially for the Valentines day. Please guide”
This hair query popped up in my inbox 3 days back. And I thought, this is a really good query that needs to be addressed.
After all who doesn’t want their hair to smell good all day. So I am sharing a DIY hair perfume recipe that you can make at home using rose petals. This hair perfume will not only make your hair smell good all day but will also make your hair more soft and manageable.
Plus its a perfect way to make your man go crazy. You know when you hug and your hair smells heavenly it is absolutely amazing feeling for you both.
Why Use Rose Petals To Make Hair Perfume?
How To Make Your Hair Smell Good With Homemade Rose Hair Perfume?
Ingredients
For this DIY Hair Perfume you just need 3 things:
- Rose Petals
- Distilled Water (you can use tap water instead, but just boil it first to kill the bacteria.)
- Leave-in conditioner of your choice.
Directions To Make Homemade Hair Perfume
The recipe is extremely easy and quick one.
- Take Rose Petals and wash them with light hands. Now, take a container and add these petals to it.
- Add distilled water until the its enough to cover the rose petals.
- Heat the water with rose petals on low to medium flame with occasional stirring. Heat for couple of minutes until you see the petals losing its color. Then turn off the heat and let it cool down.
- After it comes to room temperature, strain it in spray bottle.
- Now add a dime sized amount of your favorite leave-in conditioner to it.
- Shake well.
- Tadaa.. your DIY Hair Perfume from Rose Petals is ready.
How To Use The Hair Perfume?
- Start by spraying this hair perfume on your hair strands. Make sure you spray it an inch or two apart from your scalp, since it contains leave-in conditioner. And chances are your leave-in conditioner might have some harmful chemicals in it like parabens or silicones which would hamper the pH level of your scalp.
- Spray the perfume generously until you entire hair length is covered.
- Now comb your hair using a wooden comb and style as you desire.
- If you are going to use heat to style your hair, you can add few drops of rosehip oil to this hair spray. It will minimize the damage and will help repair the damage caused.
- Once made, you can store it in your refrigerator for 3 days.
How To Make Your Hair Smell Good Without Shampoo?
Its no rocket science that a shampoo with good fragrance makes your hair smell nice. But with the added fragrance, you are bound to encounter the added harsh chemicals.
Plus, shampooing daily isn’t good for your hair’s health. So here are some alternatives to shampoo that will help you make your hair smell nice:
- Try the rose hair perfume I just shared above
- Rosemary water for hair
- Lemon hair rinse
- Adding essential oils to your hair serum or leave-in conditioners
- Ready to use hair perfumes in the market like this

Awh this brings back memories! I remember doing this as a child, we’d collect different flower petals and experiment with different scents! It’s a really lovely idea 🙂
This is such a wonderful ide, Roses are my favourite flowers and I am always buying them. And I’m so glad now I don’t have to just throw them away but can make something beautiful from it!
I’ve never tried hair perfume before. My hair smells like either my shampoo or my conditioner. But I’m curious and since it’s easy to make I’d like to try your hair perfume.
Awesome! I love having my hair smell nice and hair products are the most I invest in. It’s amazing that you can make your own shampoos, perfumes and soaps–It’s organic and environment-friendly to be self-sufficient and not rely on consumer products!
This maybe a stupid Q coming from a man, but let me ask anyway :). If you’ll add a conditioner to it, is there no need to rinse it? Will it not make a hair feel sticky?
Oh wow!!! I had no idea you could do this. So lovely and pretty!
Just a question: have you tried using different petals? I’m curious if different petals produce different aromatic scents. (I’m assuming they though do). I’ll probably try this and might compare with perfumes bought in the market. Plus, it’s a neat trick I can use to impress somebody!!!! Hihihihi…
I didn’t know it’s that easy to make your own hair perfume! Have you tried making rose hair perfume and adding essential oils as well? I read that lemon and sweet orange are good options for this kind of formula. 🙂
Perfumes from rose petals… this is so cool and as a matter of fact brought back memories when I was in elementary grade school. We had a project and that was to make perfume from Sampaguita flowers.
I’ve never tried making my own hair perfume. Let alone try it. I also never thought that rose petals do not only smell good, but are also beneficial to one’s hair. Your steps are easy to do. Wish you could have clearer photos so we can appreciate it more. Anyway, thank you for sharing 🙂
This is a great idea. Why not put perfume in your hair? Roses are always one of my favorite smells. Who doesn’t love to smell like a diva ha ha. I surely love to smell like roses.
This is really neat, I never thought of making hair perfume before, but bet this smells just lovely with being made from roses and all!
