Is Pantene good for your hair or is Pantene bad for your hair? Does Pantene shampoo cause hair loss? Does Pantene test on animals?
Pantene is good for your hair and it is not a bad shampoo or conditioner. But Pantene shampoos that contain sulfates can be a bit harsh especially if you have dry or curly hair. Pantene conditioners do have silicones in them that might lead to build-up on your hair shafts so you need to use a good clarifying shampoo once a month.
After starting this series, I received a lot of requests to share my two cents on the advantages and disadvantages of Pantene shampoo. Without further ado, let’s discuss it in detail 🙂
Well, Pantene is good for your hair and it is also bad for your hair. Here’s how?
Is Pantene Good For Your Hair Or Is It Bad?
This is a fair query to have crossed your mind. After all, Pantene is one of the most popular hair care brands but are Pantene shampoos good for hair? Does Pantene shampoo cause hair loss?
Let me clarify…
Pantene Is Good For You Because
- Pantene shampoos are formulated targeting specific hair problems
- Their shampoos and other hair products have high-quality organic ingredients
- Pantene shampoos are widely popular and have a lot of loyal fans
- Their shampoos and conditioners do deliver good results
- Gold series for curly hair
Pantene is good for your hair because Pantene brings new and improved products targeting specific hair care needs. They source high-quality super beneficial ingredients like argan oil, castor oil, jojoba oil, rice water, provitamins, and others.
Pantene shampoos have a dedicated fan base of their own. Some loyal customers swear by the wonderful effects of Pantene shampoos and conditioners. In fact, they can’t recommend Pantene shampoos enough.
If you are one of these people who feel that you finally zeroed down on your hair’s soulmate shampoo but because it contains some harsh chemicals you need to divorce it and find another one?
You can continue to use the shampoos, conditioners, or hair products that work for you despite what anyone else says. It’s your hair and you know better what it needs.
Just a friendly piece of advice, if you do use a Pantene shampoo that contains sulfates then make sure you dilute it well before using it on your hair. Also, a good hot oil treatment beforehand will make sure that the sulfates aren’t stripping down on your natural oils.
If you follow the Curly girl method, then you need to stick to Pantene’s gold series. It’s the only Pantene shampoo that is truly good for your curly hair.

Pantene Is Bad For Your Hair Because
- Pantene shampoos contain harmful chemicals like SLS, Sodium Laureth sulfate (SLES), Cocamidopropyl betaine, Fragrance, Triclosan, Phenoxyethanol, Dimethicone, and Formaldehyde to name a few.
- Their hair conditioners contain silicones which leave a layer of build-up, Pantene contains plastics claimed by a hairstylist on Facebook
- Not for people who follow Curly Girl Method
- Pantene is not truly cruelty-free
- Their products aren’t vegan
Pantene shampoos are bad for your hair because it contains a long list of harsh chemicals in their formulations which not only strip off the natural oils from your scalp and hair but might also disrupt your scalp’s natural pH.
A hairstylist claimed on Facebook that Pantene contains plastic which caught on fire while doing a routine hair styling treatment on a customer. I looked everywhere but didn’t find any evidence supporting his claim.
However, Pantene conditioners and deep conditioning masks do have silicones in them.
If you found a conditioner that contains silicones but it works well for your hair, use it.
Just make sure you apply it an inch or two away from your scalp and you use a good clarifying shampoo at least once a month to remove the silicone build-up.
Is Pantene Cruelty-free?
Pantene is not truly cruelty-free. In fact, Pantene is on PETA‘s do test on animals list. You can check that out here. Where on their official website, Pantene does claim to not test its products on animals.
Isn’t it sad that even in this era there is no strict law governing this term and any brand despite not being truly cruelty-free can claim to be one without any major consequences?
Pantene is owned by P&G which again is not a cruelty-free company. Also, these products are sold in mainland China where animal testing is unfortunately still a mandatory law.
So, to conclude, if you are strongly in favor of using only products that are not tested on animals then I would recommend you to look elsewhere because Pantene is not cruelty-free and it still tests its products on animals.
Is Pantene Vegan?
No Pantene is not a vegan brand nor does it advertises itself to be a vegan brand.
Pantene hair products may contain animal-derived ingredients or byproducts and thus, if you are vegan and prefer vegan shampoos and hair products, then I believe Pantene is bad for you and you should look elsewhere.
Is Pantene Sulfate-free?
No, not all Pantene shampoo is not SLS-free. But their gold series shampoo is sulfate-free shampoo and a good Pantene shampoo to get your hands on. It is a good shampoo for colored hair too.
- Contains one 8.5 fluid ounce shampoo and one 8.4 fluid ounce conditioner
- Gold Series Sulfate Free Shampoo nourishes hair with an Argan Oil infused...
- Paraben-free, sulfate-free and dye-free formula

Conclusion: Is Pantene Good Or Bad?
Pantene is good for your hair if you pick the right set of hair products for your hair type and are willing to put in the extra effort to use a good clarifying shampoo every month to remove the product build-up because it is gonna leave a layer of build-up on your hair strands.
But their Gold series is a good initiative to create a line of hair products that isn’t so harsh on your hair strands.
Pantene is not for you if you are looking for cruelty-free, vegan, or CGM-friendly products. So if for you any of these criteria must be ticked then you should look elsewhere.
As Pantene is not cruelty-free, Pantene does have animal derived ingredients in its products and not all its products are curly girl method friendly.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this too. What do you think: Is Pantene good for your hair or is it bad? Do let me know in case if you think I missed out on any important points.
