What Are The Disadvantages Of Tresemme Shampoo?
Like every silver cloud has a dark lining, these Tresemme shampoos do have their own disadvantages. Tresemme shampoo is bad for your hair because:
- Not suitable for people with natural hair or
- not recommended for people who follow the curly girl method
- contains a long list of harsh chemicals
- not vegan
- some products contain DMDM hydantoin.
As I mentioned before, Tresemme shampoos contain a long list of harsh chemicals like SLS, parabens, mineral oils, and added fragrances which can lead to hair damage. These chemicals not only strip off natural oil and color from your hair strands but also leaves a layer of build-up which in turn leads to hair breakage and scalp infections.
So, always make sure you check the ingredients list before you purchase not only any of these Tresemme shampoos but make it a habit to take a quick glance at the ingredients list on any shampoo that you are willing to purchase.
Some Tresemme shampoos contain an ingredient called DMDM hydantoin. this ingredient is added to increase the shelf life of the product but in the past Tresemme has suffered a lawsuit because this ingredient gave a consumer terrible hair fall. you can read more details about it here.
I would recommend using a shampoo that is free of DMDM hydantoin and other harmful chemicals.
These shampoos as they contain a long list of chemicals are not an ideal match for people who are on their natural hair journey or who are willing to follow the curly girl method. Tresemme shampoos aren’t CGM friendly.
Is Tresemme Cruelty-free or does Tresemme test its products on animals?
Tresemme is cruelty-free and does not test its products on animals. Tresemme is PETA certified and now a proud member of the beauty without bunnies program.
When we reached out to Tresemme to know more details about its cruelty-free status, here is what the brand said,
“In regards to your question, consumers in China can only purchase TRESemmé products via cross-border e-commerce which does not require animal testing by local authorities. TRESemmé has enacted a policy prohibiting any animal tests for its products, anywhere in the world.”
The brand has confirmed that it no longer sells its products in mainland China or anywhere else where animal testing is mandatory. This is such a nice step that is commendable. I wish more and more brands should take this initiative and go cruelty-free.
Thus, Tresemme is cruelty-free and they no longer test its products, or ingredients either themselves or via a third party.
Is Tresemme Vegan?
Tresemme shampoos also contain animal-derived ingredients. When I checked their official website here is what it said,
“Our products may contain animal-derived ingredients from normal sustainable animal husbandry or farming or fishery practices such as milk, honey, lanolin, silk, etc. Products may also contain processed and denatured animal by-products with established uses such as tallow, keratin, collagen, elastin, etc.
In most cases, this is because the ingredient performs a function for which there is no suitable alternative available. Animal welfare is an important social and ethical issue. As part of our Sustainable Agricultural Code, we work with suppliers to continuously improve the sourcing of agricultural ingredients.”
So if you are someone who prefers using vegan products then I would recommend you look elsewhere.
Conclusion: Is Tresemme shampoo good or bad for your hair?
I would say Tresemme shampoo is good for your hair, if you find your hair’s ideal match and are willing to include extra steps to your hair care routine of doing monthly hair detox or using a good clarifying shampoo to remove the build-up it leaves on your hair and doing regular deep conditioning treatment to keep your hair nourished after using a shampoo that can strip off your hair’s natural oils.
Plus, Tresemme is cruelty-free.
However, I would recommend you to not use Tresemme shampoo if you are on your natural hair journey, want to use CGM-friendly products, or want to use vegan products. Then you should look elsewhere.
