Hi peeps,

How are you? I am a lil late with this post. I wanted to write this post on mother’s day but one thing lead to another and I completely lost my mind… Lolz…. But every day is special mother’s day right?

This is how I pampered my mom on mother’s day. Her hair is actually my inspiration behind this web. She has the most beautiful hair you can imagine. Hence I gave her hair spa. You know Pampering your Mom feel so amazing. You guys should try it too !!!

What is Hair Spa?

In case if you don’t know, basically hair spa is pampering your hair to make your dull, dry and damaged hair into silky, shiny and smooth hair in three simple steps

  1. Oiling
  2. Steam and Shampoo
  3. Hair mask

How to do Hair Spa at Home?

I usually receive emails and messages regarding people asking me on how to do hair spa at home. Well doing hair spa at salons might be easy on your work part but might be really hard on your pocket. Since I am here, you don’t have to worry at all. Let’s check out exactly how you can do hair spa at home?

  1. Oiling

Oiling is most important for hair spa. Basically your hair needs nourishment. Somehow in our busy life, we tend to ignore our hair. Thus begin by giving them the nourishment they deserve. Oil works really great when it comes to nourishment, all you need to do is find the right hair oil according to your hair type and heat it using double boiler method for enhancing its nutrients.

I usually make this hair oil while doing hair spa.

Ingredients

Coconut Oil – 2 TSP ( I used Oriflame, you can use coconut oil from any brand)

Castor Oil – 2TSP

Bhringraj Oil – 2 TSP ( I used but the Bhringraj oil from Khadi works amazing too)

Vitamin E Capsules -2 Capsules

DIY HAIR OIL FOR HAIR SPA AT HOME

Just mix these oils and heat it using double boiler method and just applied it on your hair and scalp.

Massaged it in circular motions on scalp and forehead and let the oil stay on for an hour.

2. Steam and Shampoo

Now after an hour, just give a bit of steam to your hair. This helps in better penetration of hair oils into the hair shaft.

For steaming you can use the steam cap that is usually more convenient and less messy. I use one from Hair and Beauty And Bought it from Amazon and its so far amazing. But in case if you don’t owe the steam cap nothing to be worried. All you need to do is dip a towel in hot water and just put it on your hair and let the steam pass. Be careful and don’t burn your hands. Do this for at least 15 to 20 minutes.

For shampoo, I would recommend using a mild shampoo and not a clarifying one. Just don’t use too much shampoo. Doesn’t matter if the little bit of oil stays in your hair.

3. Hair Mask

Usually I make this particular hair mask while doing hair spa at home, which conditions and strengthens the hair at the same time. But you can use a ready made mask like Himalaya Herbals Protein Hair Mask or Oriflame’s Milk and Honey Hair Mask or you can try The Banana and Honey Mask which transforms your hair completely within two hours.

hair spa at home

Lets check out hair mask that I make specially for hair spa.

Ingredients

Conditioner – 2 TSP

Hair Serum -Few Drops

Castor Oil – 1 TSP

Vitamin E Capsule -1

Glycerine – 1 TSP

Honey – 1 TSP

Method

  • Take Conditioner ( I used Oriflame but you can use the one that suits your hair) and add few drops of Hair Serum( I used TLC Strex serum but you can use the one that suits your hair.)
  • Now Add Castor oil and Oil from Vitamin E Capsule.
  • Now add Glycerine and Honey.
  • Mix all these well and apply on your hair ( don’t apply too much on your scalp.)
  • Leave it on for an hour and again give steam for 10 minutes and them rinse it with water.
  • Tadaa… You finally did hair spa at home. I am so proud of you !!!

Notes

  • Feel free to use different oils, shampoos and conditioners(try using one with protein content).
  • While oiling concentrate more on your scalp.
  • While using hair mask, concentrate more on your hair length.
  • Don’t use a shampoo with too much harmful chemicals like Sulphates and Parabens.
  • Its always better to use a steam cap to provide mess and also for protecting your hands from getting burned.
  • Rinse off the mask completely with water.
  • Don’t use hair dryer and try to air dry your hair.Check out this post for more such useful tips.
  • In case you are in hurry you can just use the mask and it will give you amazing results too !!!

Something worth the try. Sometimes, though i would love to visit a salon, i do not have that much time. Doing hair spa at home is not only economical but also serves as a bonding time which improves relationship. My mom has a short hair but surely she would also appreciate if i do this to her. Thanks for the detailed instruction.

    Hi Tamshuk,
thanks for your sweet words. Actually My dad is Ayurvedic doctor and my Mom knows lot of secrets. Hence, I know some secret tips about all these things. 🙂

  40. Nimi Popat says:

    Jessica,
You and me both sister !!! Thanks for appreciating 🙂

  41. Nimi Popat says:

Thanks Lester. I am glad to have you here. 🙂

  42. Nimi Popat says:

    Hi Robert,
Doing Hair Spa at home has lot of benefits. Things that people use in salons contains lot of chemicals but at home we use all the natural ingredients. Hence, no side effects. Plus all the ingredients are usually available in the house. Also, spa at home is less than one fourth the cost of that you pay at salons. 🙂

  43. ROBERT LEE says:

Hair spa, naturally, I succumbed to my curiosity. Never knew this can be done at home, but for the trouble of getting all the ingredients, does it make sense to do it at home as opposed to going to a salon for the comfort and the pros do know what they are doing. Nevertheless, a very good post for those who would like to do this at home.

  44. Lester says:

Great tutorial. I’m sure your mother loved it. I know nothing about hair-care and what nots. Glad I stumbled into your article!

  45. Jessica says:

I love natural ways to keep my hair well. This a great idea and alternative. 🙂

  46. Tamshuk says:

Great resource for women looking to taking care of hair by themselves at home. You do have quite a lot of knowledge in this

  47. Carola says:

This is amazing! Love the way you describe how to do it. Feels like now I should be able to try this. And I really like that you also say which products you can use. Mostly that’s where I’m stuck. Then I don’t know what to get so I don’t do it. But this is really helpfull!

  48. As usual a helpful and detailed guide on hair care The ingredients that you’ve provided is a great alternative to the hair spa formulas sold in the general stores. Plus, it’s way better since it’s natural. I would love to try this to my mom since she was always the one before who gives me hair spa. It’s a great idea to return the favor. Of course, this is my go-to guide. Thanks!

  49. Denice Diaz says:

The detailed instructions are so great because it makes it easier to follow when we do a hair spa session at home. To be honest I haven’t tried any DIY solutions for hair spa so this weekend might be our first!

  50. Kat says:

This is really useful and interesting. I always go to a salon whenever I need a hair spa because it’s easier and I don’t have the necessary items such as oils for doing it at home. I hope you have before and after photos. Would love to see what your mom’s hair looks like after the hair spa treatment. 🙂

  51. I’m not a parlor type of girl. I only visit the parlor once a year to have my hair rebonded. What I do enjoy is pampering my hair at home! I also do hair spa at the comfort of my bathroom at least once a month. What I use are store bought from Watsons. My favorite is the macadamia oil hair spa. I love the scent and the soft effect on my damaged hair. Some said using apple cider vinegar on the hair makes it smooth but I’m having second thoughts. I can’t seem to tolerate the smell.

  52. Lawrence Hamilton says:

This is really beautiful. Must use this with the wife!

  53. Eugenia says:

Looks like a great idea to do hair spa at home that is also a budget friendly! I need to make this hair mask, seems so easy and effective! Thanks for sharing such useful tips!

  54. danjuma says:

not a big fan of the spa but I think his is a good one. hanks for sharing all the same.

  55. Nimi Popat says:

    Thanks Rowena.

  56. Nimi Popat says:

    Thanks Stella.

  57. Stella the Travelerette says:

That looks like so much fun! I would love to oil and steam my hair just like I’ve done to my face. I had an oil treatment at a spa once and my hair looked fabulous afterwards! Thanks for sharing.

  58. Rowena Conde says:

Never thought that you can do this at home. Thanks for the tip. I will try this!

  59. Nimi Popat says:

    Thanks Chaza!!!

  60. Chaza says:

I love your detailed instructions. I really want to try having oil on my hair more often. Thank you for sharing such helpful post.:)
