Is Native Shampoo Good For Your Hair?
Native was started by Moiz Ali on the quest to create a clean deodorant which then flourished into the entire body care and hair care brand. Native was then acquired by P&G in 2017.
Their motto is
Sparing is caring. You deserve personal care products without any dirty secrets. That’s why Native makes daily staples like deodorant, body wash, soap, shampoo, and toothpaste that are good, clean, fun, and cruelty-free.
Native Shampoo Is Good For Your Hair Because:
- They are made up of very limited ingredients
- The native shampoo is free of SLS, parabens, and dyes
- Cruelty-free
- Their shampoos contain a combination of salts and chelating agents in shampoo which helps people who leave in hard water areas
- Native shampoos are safe for color-treated hair.

What Are The Disadvantages Of Native Shampoo?
The native shampoo is bad for your hair because:
- It contains ‘added fragrance’ (which might cover any of the 4000 ingredients as permitted by IFRA)
- It’s not truly a vegan brand
- Have very limited options to choose from
- Native shampoos make hair greasy
- Not recommended for people with the oily hair or if your hair gets greasy fast or people with oily hair and dry scalp.
Although these aren’t that strong disadvantages I still figured I should mention them for better clarity.
Is Native Cruelty-Free?
yes, Native is cruelty-free. It does not test its ingredients or finished products either itself or via a third party and they do not sell in the regions where animal testing is mandatory.
However, Native is owned by P&G which isn’t cruelty-free.
Native isn’t certified by any organizations either.
Is Native Vegan?
Native isn’t 100% vegan but they do offer some completely vegan products.

What Hair Type is Native Shampoo For?
Although Native shampoo is good for all hair types people with oily or greasy hair have often shared that their hair gets greasy a day after using Native shampoos. So if you have oily hair or greasy hair then I would recommend you to check out these shampoos for oily hair.
Conclusion: Is Native Shampoo Good Or Bad For Your Hair?
Native is good for your hair because of its limited and good ingredients list. I am impressed by how they have limited the use of harmful chemicals in their hair products. I wish they would have shared more details about the fragrance ingredients.
But compared with other hair care brands in the market and their long list of ingredients, I feel Native is a good option to consider. It is also cruelty-free and does have some vegan options to choose from which gives them extra brownie points.
I wouldn’t recommend opting for Native shampoo if you have oily hair and I am a little disappointed with the limited options to find your ideal shampoo. Go for Native shampoo and conditioner if you have dry, curly, or color treated hair, and give their coconut and vanilla variant a try. It does leave your hair soft.
