Having long, flowing, and glossy hair has been a dream for most of us. Whenever we begin upon our journey to grow long hair or keep hair healthy, we tend to give it up halfway through our hair goals.

The reasons could be anything like lack of motivation, misinformation, or hair damage that keeps undoing all our efforts.

In this post, we’re going to help you solve the hair damage problem using the pineapple hairstyle so that you can skyrocket the results and achieve all of your desired hair goals…

What Is Pineapple Hairstyle?

Pineapple hairstyle is often a term used for a high bun used to protect hair when sleeping. Essentially, you just grab all of your hair and put them in place on top of your head using a loose scrunchie or any hair tie.

When it’s done properly, you’ll have a beautiful, chic hairstyle that resembles the shape of a pineapple…

Yep, I’m not kidding!

How The Pineapple Hairstyle Prevents Hair-Breakage While Sleeping?

Did you know most of the hair damage occurs when you’re sleeping?

While you sleep, you tend to toss and turn frequently so your hair could get tangled, pulled or rubbed against the pillow roughly. These actions when done repeatedly can cause your hair to become weak and eventually break.

In a pineapple hairstyle, all of your hair will be on top of your head. So only the back and sides of your head will be in contact with the pillows. Thus, the delicate, fragile ends of your hair get protected from all the friction caused by tossing and turning.

Your hair gets damaged while you’re sleeping. But isn’t it funny how sleep is also an essential routine to have a healthy head of hair?

Things You’ll Need

You need just any one of the following items:

  • A scrunchie
  • A hair tie
  • A silk scarf
  • A hairband

None of the items should be either too tight or too loose. It should be firm enough to hold all of your hair in one place with just one round.

How To Make The Pineapple Hairstyle The Right Way?

To make it easier for you, we’ve put down the styling step by step. There are just 3 steps to create a basic pineapple hairstyle and an additional 2 steps if you need extra protection:

Brush your hair thoroughly

Brushing your hair before bed is a must since it removes the tangles and dirt (if present), and spreads the natural oils all over your hair. A wooden comb is ideal for it as it even balances your scalp’s PH while brushing and effectively distributes the natural oil to each and every hair shaft.

This makes sure your hair is protected and prevents hair damage to some extent. It also makes your hair easier to be styled into a pineapple.

Bend over & bring hair into one place

Once you’re done brushing, bend over and let your hair fall freely in front of you. Group all of your hair together at the crown of your head. For smaller hairs, use your finger to gather them up in place.

Hold them together like a ponytail at the crown of your head.

Hold in place using a scrunchie or any hair tie

Tie a ponytail using your choice of hair accessory.

Make sure it isn’t too tight or too loose. If it’s tight, you could end up with a dent over your head. If loose, the pineapple hairstyle may not hold strong against all the tossing and turning in bed and all your efforts will go in vein.

Use hair pins or hair bands (optional)

This additional method is for you if you have a short hairstyle like a bob. You can use a hairband to hold small hair in place or secure all the tiny hair using a hairpin.

Use silk pillowcase (optional)

You can opt to reduce the friction between the pillowcases and your hair by switching over to a silk or satin pillowcase over any other fabric.

How To Take Down Your Pineapple Hairstyle?

Taking down the pineapple hairstyle is just as simple too. You can remove it just like you would for any other hairstyles but:

  • DO NOT rip off your scrunchie as soon as you wake up. You may end up pulling out a few strands. ALWAYS be patient and loosen your hair gently.
  • If you feel some uncomfortable sensation at the roots of your hair, DO NOT panic as it’s normal. This is only because your hairs were aligned in a completely different direction for over 6 hours.
  • DO NOT forget to toss and style your hair a bit before you run away to enjoy your good hair day!

And that’s all you need to know about the pineapple hairstyle.
