Is egg oil good for hair? Or does it cause protein overload? Is egg hair oil bad when used for a longer duration? Does egg oil smell bad?
I love experimenting with different hair oils. And on this hair blog, I literally preach hair oils. So it was time to address this query that kept popping into my inbox. Well, egg oil is good for hair and it has its disadvantages too.
In this article, I will discuss in detail the benefits of egg oil and the not-so-good things about this hair oil. So let’s discuss.
Is Egg Oil Good For Hair?
Yes, egg oil is extremely beneficial for our hair health. It is an oil that is extracted from yolks of chicken eggs. It is a good source of protein and fatty acids like omega 3 and omega 6 which strengthen hair follicles and minimizes hair loss.
It is also rich in antioxidants that help with grey hair reversal and has immunoglobulins that control inflammation. The best benefit of egg oil is that it nourishes hair, moisturizes the scalp, and adds an instant shine to your dull hair that too without the raw egg smell.
As per a study conducted egg oil also promotes faster hair growth. However, more studies need to be done for a more conclusive result. As per another study, it is recognized as an emerging medicine.
With so many benefits of egg oil, how can one not be tempted to try it. So, I gave a try too.
Eyova Egg Hair Oil Review
Recently I came across a brand named Eyova. They sent me their cold-pressed egg hair oil and I received mine about a month ago. I tried it for a month and here is my experience with the Eyova egg oil for hair.
The Appearance
The oil comes in a transparent plastic bottle with a black flip-flop cap. It is not travel-friendly, I had it with me while traveling and it leaked a bit. So not a big fan of their packaging.
The cold-pressed egg oil is yellow same as that of an egg yolk. The consistency is a bit runny compared to other oils which made it much easier to spread on my hair and scalp. I also required a small quantity compared to other oils to cover my long Indian hair.
The smell was a bit artificial as they add artificial fragrance. Mind you, it does not smell of egg at all but it has a strong fragrance. This might be an issue for some but for me, I was able to keep it overnight.

My Experience Using Eyova Egg Oil
Usually, I need at least 5 to 6 TSP of hair oil to cover my entire hair length and scalp but to my surprise when it came to this oil, I only required about 2-3 TSP. As always, I heated the oil using the double boiler method to enhance its nutrients and did a good scalp massage using the inversion method.
The next morning I gave my hair a little steam using my steam cap and then rinsed the oil off using my rosemary shampoo. It was easy to wash off and I didn’t require much shampoo, water, or patience to get it off my hair. This is what I loved the most about this hair oil.

After the first try, I didn’t notice any difference in my hair. After the third try, my hair kind of felt a bit more manageable. I haven’t seen any huge difference in my scalp condition so far but I am still using it and the product has not given me any positive noticeable results.
I will let you know any more results I get.

A Bonus Hair Care Tip for you Guys
Conclusion: Is Egg Oil Good Or Bad For Hair?
Egg oil is good for your hair. It does contain a good amount of proteins, fatty acids, and antioxidants to promote better hair health.
Just make sure you buy from a brand that sells 100% cold-pressed egg oil and lists all its active ingredients. This will help you evaluate whether that egg oil is better for your hair health or not.
I would also like to add that don’t use just egg oil for a longer duration as it might lead to protein overload. I prefer diluting the egg oil with a combination of penetrating and sealing oil. And always do a patch test beforehand.
